What the End of the COVID-19 PHE Means for Healthcare

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT

President Biden has indicated that the declared public health emergency (PHE) will end on May 11, 2023. This fulfills the promise that healthcare would receive at least 60 days before the end of the PHE, which has been in effect since January 2020.

In this keynote address for Patient Safety Now, presenter Marge McFarlane will explain how this will impact Medicaid enrollment, COVID-19 testing fees, public health reporting of COVID-19 data, and infection prevention strategies in light of ongoing COVID cases.

READY, SET, GROW: PLANTING SEEDS FOR SUCCESSFUL CHANGE

12:05 PM - 1:05 PM EDT

Implementing change is a constant in healthcare. Most change initiatives originate from a top-down approach with leaders identifying a problem, developing a solution/change and then rolling it out to the frontlines. By the time leaders are ready to roll out the change, they have had ample opportunity to understand the purpose behind the change and the intended benefits. It is easy for leaders to forget that the change has not been similarly internalized by those who will be most affected by it. Preparing people for change is considered a critical precursor to the behaviors that support change, and when change initiatives run into challenges, more often than not, it isn’t the structural side of the change that trips leaders up, it is the lack of focus on the people side. In this presentation, we will discuss the critical elements of a readiness program and how to use these elements to implement transformational change.
