With the recent publication of its new transmission-based precautions guideline, the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) is challenging nurses to take a new approach to infection prevention.
Based on lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, the updated AORN Guideline for Transmission-Based Precautions includes new evidence “challenges long-held assumptions and introduces more nuanced, risk-based strategies for contact, droplet, and airborne precautions,” according to an article on the AORN website by Erin Kyle, DNP, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, and Karen deKay, MSN, RN, EBP-C, CNOR, CIC, FAPIC.
